Course of study
1st year
After you have explored the structures and functions of the human body, you will study how sport and exercise affect these. You will develop a fundamental understanding of motor, cognitive, physiological and psychological processes. You will also gain knowledge about the influence of nutrition on performance and health and learn how to coach, instruct and lead athletes and teams. In our sports and movement laboratory, you will learn how to carry out sports science measurements and training procedures and practice in various coaching situations. You additionally have the opportunity to learn about and practice some sporting disciplines.
2nd year
In the second year of study you will acquire in-depth, applied knowledge and practically explore some additional sporting disciplines. In the laboratory you will investigate how the body reacts to stress factors generated in different training environments. You will also have the choice of which area you would like to specialise in.
a) Specialisation Coaching and Physical Education:
Are you interested in teaching physical exercise at school? You can then choose our specialisation coaching and physical education. You will acquire pedagogical and methodological skills necessary to teach sports, create holistic physical activity programmes and apply them to a variety of youth populations. Additionally, you have the opportunity to acquire a coaching license. For this purpose we cooperate with the Ecole Nationale de l’éducation physique et des sports (ENEPS) in Luxembourg.
b) Specialisation Sport Performance and Training:
If you are more interested in optimising an athlete’s potential, this second specialisation will be the perfect fit for you. You will learn how to plan, implement and evaluate the training programmes for specific populations and take an active part in the rehabilitation of sports injuries.
3rd year
In your final year, we will introduce you to research methods in the field of sport and exercise science. In addition, you will have the opportunity to undertake an internship that will enable you to gain insights and experience in a professional field of your choice. You will finalise your studies with your bachelor’s thesis on a topic of your interest and passion, which is supervised and supported by an experienced member of our staff.

Level of fitness
As this is a science-focused degree programme, it is not necessary to be highly trained yourself or to be an expert in any particular sport. Nonetheless, you should be interested in exercise and sport and the science behind it and be able to enjoy it. Part of the practical lessons include the testing and training of others as well as yourself. This is a crucial ingredient for a successful career as for example a coach or sports teacher has to demonstrate how to perform certain exercises.
