Testimonial – Grigor comes back from a placement in Sri Lanka
Grigor is 24 and comes from Bulgaria. He studies in our Master in Physiotherapy and went to Sri Lanka for an internship! Read his testimonial:
« As part of my Master in Physiotherapy programme, LUNEX University provided me with the opportunity to undertake an internship in Sri Lanka through the Realstep – Freepackers Organization. I worked as a physiotherapist at Maliban Rehabilitation Clinic, treating patients with conditions such as spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, and paraplegia.
My tasks included mobilization, exercises, and patient education. I also taught first aid basics to children and experienced Ayurveda medicine.
I liked the working experience, from travelling by Tuk-Tuk, to dealing with conditions such as Dengue fever and infantile stroke. I also enjoyed sharing our European treatment methods to the local physios. Working with limited resources, I learned to simplify treatment sessions, becoming capable of finding simple solutions to complex problems.
Due to the language barrier, I improved my non-verbal communication while expanding my foreign vocabulary. The highlight of my internship was witnessing live surgeries, an experience that was more interesting than I had anticipated. Equally significant were the meaningful moments I shared with incredible people I met, leading to lifelong friendships.
Surfing, safaris, and climbing Adam’s peak were the activities we enjoyed most. I experienced cultural norms like eating with one’s fingers and breathtaking nature. I lived with several volunteers at the AASHA house in Unawatuna, which housed dedicated staff who took excellent care of us. Many aspects of this internship felt like challenges for my former self, but they made me evolve both as a health professional and as a person. »
Grigor’s internship has been made possible by the Erasmus+ programme.
