Student testimonial – Hugo works with the National Cycling Team

Meet Hugo who works with the National Cycling Team of Luxembourg.

“My name is Hugo, I study Physiotherapy at LUNEX in Semester 4. A few months ago, I have joined the National Cycling Team of Luxembourg.

I travel with the U23 team during races: the most recent one was the World Cup in Czech Republic. The next race is the European Championship in Portugal in July, then the Tour de l’Avenir (Tour de France U23) in August. In September, the World Championship in Australia for 3 weeks.

My workdays are very busy: the day of the race, my main job is to take care of everything so that the only thing riders think about is their race. In the morning, I prepare the bottles. I am taking care of the food supplies during the race. If a rider wins the stage or a special jersey, I will follow him to the podium and to the anti-doping test. In the evening, I do some recovery massage for each rider (6 riders).

There is a strong team spirit and I have been very well integrated into the staff. Sport director Frank Schleck and Jempy Drucker helped me a lot at the beginning. I used to be a cyclist and it is an amazing opportunity for me to be able to join the team. My dream has come true.”
