LUNEX University is leading a research on the impact of COVID-19 on the sport sector in Luxembourg
A 6-month research project funded by the Ministry of Sport in Luxembourg through their Restart Sports scheme and also supported by the Luxembourg Olympic and Sporting Committee aims to identify the social and sporting impact of COVID-19 on sport organisations in Luxembourg.
Prof. Dr. Mathieu Winand, coordinator of the research project, explains that “many countries’ lockdown and social distancing strategies necessary to face the global health crisis have massively impacted the sport sector. The sporting landscape in Luxembourg has also been affected but the detailed impact is still unknown. We aim to uncover how the measures taken against the spread of COVID-19 have impacted the sport sector and what lasting changes to the sector the crisis may bring.”
The research project lead by LUNEX aims to assess the sport and social impact of the health crisis, to identify how sporting organisations in Luxembourg have responded, and what changes they foresee. The project consists of a 2-stage approach with a web-based survey addressed to sport federations and clubs in Luxembourg followed by roundtable discussions with sport organisations’ representatives. It will ultimately be aimed at supporting the development of sport organisations in Luxembourg by sharing tailored solutions that can support their economic, social and sporting developments.
