Exploring the Intersection of Mathematics and Sports: A Day of Insightful Sessions and Athlete Engagement
The MathSport International 2025 conference continues its exploration of the synergy between mathematics and sports on its second day, 5 June 2025, at LUNEX in Differdange. This day promises a rich program of keynote speeches, three parallel sessions, two workshops on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in sports and a unique opportunity to engage with world-renowned athletes.
Keynote Presentation by Frits Spieksma
The day will commence with a keynote speech “Scheduling in Sports: a Tour d'Horizon” by Professor Frits Spieksma from Einhoven University of Technology, who will provide a comprehensive overview of scheduling in sports, highlighting the mathematical challenges and solutions in this domain.
Three Parallel Sessions
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in three parallel sessions and 2 practical workshops throughout the day, with over 50 presentations in the field of sports and math covering topics such as sports medicine, sports analytics, sports economics, and e-sports. These sessions and workshops will feature presentations on cutting-edge research and applications of mathematics in sports, including:
Innovative approaches in sports medicine
Advanced analytics in sports performance and sport injury
Economic models related to sports
The growing field of e-sports and its mathematical underpinnings
Evening Meet & Greet with Elite Athletes
In the evening, participants are invited to a Meet & Greet session at the Coque reception area in Luxembourg City. This event will feature distinguished athletes:
Andy Schleck, 2010 Tour de France winner
Ni Xia Lian, World Champion in table tennis doubles (1983) and European Champion (2002)
Jonathan Laugel, European champion in rugby sevens
Anne Simon, member of the Luxembourg national basketball team
Moderated by Michèle Weber, the session will delve into topics such as the use of data analytics in sports, technological advancements, and personal experiences of these athletes. Attendees will have the chance to engage directly by submitting questions during the discussion.
