During their Testing & Training module, our Bachelor in Sport and Exercise Science students put sprint performance to the test, analysing how different starting styles and running techniques impact speed and agility.
Sprinting is one of the most fundamental movements in sport, and even small differences in technique can have a significant impact on performance. To explore this, students examined a range of starting styles and running techniques, looking closely at how factors like body positioning, acceleration and stride pattern influence overall speed and agility.
Students got hands-on experience applying testing methods used in real sporting environments, gathering and analysing performance data across the different techniques tested. By comparing results side by side, they were able to see firsthand how small technical adjustments can lead to measurable differences in athletic performance, giving them a clearer understanding of the link between technique and outcome.
Beyond the data collection itself, this kind of practical testing also gives students the opportunity to develop their skills in data analysis and interpretation, learning how to translate raw results into meaningful conclusions. It's this combination of hands-on testing and analytical thinking that reflects the kind of applied approach students can expect throughout their programme, helping to build the technical and analytical skills they'll rely on throughout their careers in sport science.
