Physiotherapy Alumni Publish Research on Heart Rate Variability in Football

We’re pleased to share a recent academic achievement from three of our former MSc in Physiotherapy students: Antoine Lipka, Chloé Luthardt, and Teddy Tognaccioli.
As part of their master’s thesis, and under the guidance of Dr. Raphael Martins de Abreu, they conducted a systematic review exploring the relationship between heart rate variability and overtraining in soccer players. Their findings were published in Physiological Reports under the title:
“Heart rate variability and overtraining in soccer players: A systematic review.”The publication has already drawn interest from professionals working in sports science and performance. Dr. José María Oliva Lozano, Director of Research & Innovation at the U.S. Soccer Federation, shared the study on LinkedIn and Instagram, emphasising its practical relevance for athlete monitoring and training management.
This research reflects the commitment of our graduates to evidence-based practice and contributes to ongoing discussions around player health and performance in football. Congratulations to Antoine, Chloé, and Teddy on bringing this project to publication.
