Movement Meets Coding: A LUNEX Research Initiative

LUNEX is excited to announce the launch of the Promoting Coding Through Movement research project, supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). This innovative 12-week project aims to introduce young children to computational thinking through physical activities, blending education with movement to foster an early interest in science and technology.

The project kicked off in October 2024 and will run through the end of the year, featuring a 6-week intervention phase. During this time, children will participate in weekly 60-minute sessions led by experts who engage them in interactive and movement-based lessons designed to teach fundamental coding concepts.

The project takes a transdisciplinary approach, led by Sport and Exercise Science lecturer Catarina Andrade, with support from computer scientist and lecturer Dr. Renato Baptista. It emphasizes collaboration, communication, and respect for each child’s unique abilities and learning styles. This hands-on initiative is further enriched by the involvement of LUNEX sport science students, who gain valuable experience delivering educational interventions that blend movement and computational thinking.

By combining physical activity with coding principles, Promoting Coding Through Movement aims to make science more accessible and engaging for young learners, preparing them with critical skills for the future while fostering a love for learning.
