Master’s Student Karsten Dijkstra Reflects on His LUNEX Experience in Sport Management and Digitalisation
As Karsten Dijkstra prepares to complete his Master’s degree in Sport Management and Digitalisation at LUNEX, he takes a moment to reflect on the transformative journey he has experienced over the past two years. His time at LUNEX has been marked by hands-on learning, invaluable professional opportunities, and a deepened passion for sports management.
« I initially chose the Master’s in Sport Management at LUNEX because it offers a more hands-on approach and interactive learning experience. The small-scale classes ensure far better knowledge transfer compared to my bachelor studies, where the classes consisted of up to 300 students. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity for direct discussions with professors and professionals invited to speak across various courses. These interactions were not only insightful but also motivating. Moreover, the university’s focus on sports was evident in its sporty-themed environment, which created a fitting and inviting atmosphere. »
Karsten also highlights the exceptional support provided by LUNEX, sharing a specific example: « Senior Lecturer Sebastian Merten offered me the opportunity for an extra internship. With his assistance, I became an intern at the Skoda Tour, gaining invaluable experience in road cycling, one of my favourite sports and an industry I aspire to work in. »
Another significant project during Karsten’s time at LUNEX was his role as group leader for organizing the CMCM Indoor Meet. « Together with fellow students, we managed every aspect of the event, from promotion to ticketing and volunteering. This experience significantly impacted my understanding of sports management. »
Karsten believes that LUNEX aligns perfectly with his vision of sports management, emphasizing more than just financial goals in sport. « The sense of drive and motivation fostered by LUNEX’s ethos has made it an ideal choice for kick-starting my career in sports. I have learned far more than I ever could have from just lectures and textbooks. It has become the place where I combined my passion for sports with my academic interests, something I never even thought was possible a few years ago. »
As Karsten prepares to graduate, we wish him all the best in his future endeavours and are confident he will achieve great success in the world of sports.
