Shaping Future: Supporting Visually Impaired Students in Rwanda

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Charlotte Helminger from the Embassy of Luxembourg in Kigali and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg to visit our project in partnership with Cognos International and Seeing Hands Rwanda.
This collaborative initiative equips visually impaired students in Rwanda with essential skills in Massage Therapy, Anatomy, Science, and Medical English. In 2024, the first group of trainees successfully began full-time, paid roles in hotels and health facilities, marking an important milestone for the programme.
During her visit, Matthias Afting and Joseph Fersh Nkurunziza led anatomy sessions using fabric, tape, and straps to help students explore muscle structures through touch, an approach tailored to their way of learning.
We’re grateful to Charlotte for taking the time to meet and engage with the students during their training, and proud to contribute to a project that helps open pathways to independence and employment.
